Homelessness: Action Plans
In response to growing concerns about homelessness, many governments at the national, regional and local levels have begun to develop 'action plans'. The purpose of such plans is to identify key actions and strategies that government, service providers, the community and businesses can take to respond to homelessness. Action plans typically identify key recommendations and objectives, and build in a time line to address the issue (for instance, a 'five year' or 'ten year action plan'). The focus of an action plan is a series of concrete steps that focus on prevention, and strategies to move people out of homelessness, in order to reduce the number of people in need of emergency services. Action plans, which have been growing in popularity over the past decade, reflect a commitment by government and communities to seriously address the issue of homelessness.
