Homelessness: Community-Based Planning and Evaluation
Many communities in Canada and in other countries have developed and continue to update community plans to end homelessness. Community planning and evaluation involves recognizing and creating a common vision for all groups, individuals and organizations that are working toward alleviating homelessness and housing instability in a community. People within a community – from different professions, sectors and areas of expertise – get together to document the state of their community services provision. They identify assets and gaps, set priorities, and plan to measure outcomes. Over time, they form a culture of consultation, work to provide complimentary services, regularly revisit principles and objectives, and measure progress. They continually strive to provide a full range of services to people in the community.
