Depression, Suicidal Ideation and Std-Related Risk in Homeless Older Adolescents
Don't have access to the article? Read about our open access policy here.
The frequency of depression and related constructs of suicidal ideation and hopelessness in homeless older adolescents and their associations with behaviours that may increase the risk of sexually transmitted disease (STD) were studied by recruiting 523 homeless adolescents (mean age 17.8) in a large northwestern US city. Diagnostic interviews and blood/urine testing revealed that 12.2% had major depressive disorder (MDD), a rate that is five times that of a community sample. (excerpt from the source)
