From Shelter to Home... Greater Vancouver Shelter Strategy 2006-2015
The purpose of the Shelter Strategy is to plan for the shelter system in Greater Vancouver over a 10 year horizon, recognizing the links between shelters and permanent housing. The Strategy focuses on all types of emergency shelters, inclduing year round adult and seasonal shelters, transition houses, youth shelters and safe houses. It includes recommendations on: - the number of year round and seasonal shelter spaces that are needed - where these spaces should be located by sub-region - what is needed to accommodate the different client population groups The development of the shelter strategy took place over several months and consisted of a number of steps, including a needs assessment and consultation with stakeholders at a number of points in the process. An implementation plan was also prepared.
