Description:
Interviewed 84 homeless women to examine their quality of life in light of several properties of home selected from the literature and to examine the extent to which the Ss' former homes and the shelters they were currently using presented aspects of "homelessness." For many of the Ss, the family home, whether of origin or marital, did not appear to provide security, protection, positive social interaction, or the skills necessary to live independently. The shelters used by the Ss sought to recreate home by providing for some of the properties not found in the homes the Ss had left. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2002 APA, all rights reserved)
