Taking Responsibility for Homelessness: An Action Plan for Toronto. Report of the Mayor's Homelessness Action Task Force
The homeless population in Toronto is on the rise. More people are living in the streets and using shelters: in 1996, almost 26,000 different people used the shelter system in Toronto. There is rising pressure on drop-ins, food banks, and other emergency services. The number of evictions is increasing. Waiting lists for social housing are getting longer: as of June 1998, more than 100,000 people were waiting for social housing. (excerpt from the report)
