Taking Responsibility for Homelessness: An Action Plan for Toronto. Report of the Mayor's Homelessness Action Task Force
Description:
The homeless population in Toronto is on the rise. More people are living in the streets and using shelters: in 1996, almost 26,000 different people used the shelter system in Toronto. There is rising pressure on drop-ins, food banks, and other emergency services. The number of evictions is increasing. Waiting lists for social housing are getting longer: as of June 1998, more than 100,000 people were waiting for social housing. (excerpt from the report)
