Comments on H. L. Stuart and J. Arboleda-Florez's article (see record 2000-13916-004) which described the psychiatric symptomatology and mental health service needs of homeless shelter users in Calgary, Alberta. The present author questions the sample included in the study, noting that homeless people who slept in cars, abandoned buildings, and along river banks were excluded from the sample, yet a significant number of persons with full-time employment were included. It is maintained that to prevent homelessness accompanied by all of its DSM manifestations, we must ensure that all children are reared in an appropriate environment.
