Housing: Evictions Planning
Evictions planning refers to any homelessness prevention strategy whereby tenants and/or landlords are contacted and informed of their rights and obligations under the Tenant Protection Act. Staff or volunteers, working in evictions planning, contact (e.g. telephone, mail-outs, information pamphlets, etc.) tenants that receive notices of evictions to help them understand their rights and obligations with respect to the eviction process, advocate on their behalf, and direct them to additional resources, such as community legal clinics and income support programs, which can help them keep their homes.

There is a need to better understand the relationship between evictions and homelessness and develop integrated intervention processes. Services and programs with a mandate to prevent evictions are not in a position to prevent absolute homelessness. s those that require supports associated with substance use, mental illness and/or complex difficulties. Households that need multiple supports services often are more likely to require crisis intervention than eviction prevention services.
