Population: Single Men
There are many reasons that single men can become homeless. Often it is some combination of the following factors: an inadequate supply of social housing; low vacancy rates and high rents; a lack of funding for supports for people with mental health issues; the inadequacy of the addiction treatment system; and, the inadequacy of social and economic supports to prevent family breakdown.

Community agencies refer to many demographics and characteristics - requiring varied and in-depth supports and services - that are increasingly present among the single homeless men that they serve. They are often immigrants and refugees or the working poor. And many have problems associated with: complex mental health problems; estrangement from family; HIV and Hepatitis C; substance use; a history of sex-offenses; unstable employment; concurrent disorders; and/or, IV drug addiction.
