Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program: Title Vii-b of the Mckinney-vento Homelessness Assistance Act

The Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program, authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, provides formula grants to state education agencies and the Bureau of Indian Affairs to ensure that children who are homeless receive the same educational services as those provided to children with established residences. State agencies provide grants to local educational agencies that serve children and youth who are homeless and use funds for direct services to support programs and activities designed to facilitate the enrollment, attendance, and success of children and youth who are homeless in schools. Some states have used the grant funds to support special demonstration projects to serve children who are homeless. State coordinators monitor the program at the local level. This document provides updated guidance to the 2003 guidelines.
