Research conducted to determine barriers for new immigrants to labour market integration, has shown that they face more barriers than do other Canadians of working-age. They are also at greater risk of experiencing poverty. Some researchers have demonstrated that the economic challenges recent immigrants had, became more important in the nineties than in previous decades. However, many other questions regarding the labour market attachment and immigrants' living conditions remain.
