Voices from the streets - A new study about homelessness in Winnipeg was created by talking to the people living it

Who are Winnipeg’s homeless? How did they end up on the street? Why don’t they just get a job? How can governments, health-care providers and community organizations help improve their day-to-day living conditions? And what will it take to end homelessness in Winnipeg once and for all?

These are some of the questions local researchers set out to answer last summer by talking to the experts: people currently experiencing homelessness.

Released last week, the Winnipeg Street Health Report is modelled after similar studies done in Toronto and Halifax, and was created by conducting in-depth interviews with 300 people about their backgrounds, health and the challenges they’ve faced while living on the street.
