This week’s infographic comes to us from Community Solutions and looks at ending veteran homelessness. Community Solutions is an organization located in the United States that is working towards a future without homelessness. The organization takes a community-based approach for identifying the best tools that can solve the challenge of homelessness facing communities.

This week’s infographic, produced by the Canada Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA), takes a look at Ontario’s Child Poverty Reduction Strategy. Founded in 1980, the CCPA is one of Canada’s largest independent policy research organizations. Reports published by the CCPA fall into two main categories, those with a Canada-wide focus and those with a provincial focus.

The causes of family homelessness include unemployment, low wages, low rates of government assistance and a lack of affordable housing options. Factors that are linked to homelessness include food insecurity and rising housing costs.

This week’s infographic comes to us from the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS) and focuses on changing the child welfare system for African Canadians (a term used to identify all Canadians of African descent regardless of place of birth).

This week’s infographic takes a look at the relationship that exists between affordable housing and food accessibility. The infographic comes from a series published by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) that were designed to help raise awareness about Canada’s affordable housing crisis.

There is a growing demand for affordable housing across Canada. Affordable housing in Canada that is subsidized is supported by a mixture of provincial and federal funding sources. This week’s infographic, published by the ONPHA (Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association), looks at the need for increased federal investment in affordable housing in Ontario.

It is a common misconception that homelessness is a problem faced only by single adults living in large cities. The reality is that individuals living in homelessness can be found throughout Canada, in both small and large cities, wherever poverty persists. The below infographic, published by Vibrant Communities Charlotte County, takes a look at the rate of poverty in Charlotte County, New Brunswick. Charlotte County consists of six municipalities, all of which have a population of less than 5,000 (as of 2011).

Youth form a substantial part of homeless populations, both in Canada and abroad, but they are often overlooked. For the past 15 years, this issue has become increasingly visible across communities. It is estimated that youth make up about 20% of the population that uses shelters in Canada. This week’s infographic, published by the National Coalition for the Homeless, focuses on pathways to youth homelessness in the United States.

This week’s infographic, published by the Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD), takes a look at poverty in Canada. The CCSD is a non-profit organization that specializes in social development. The organization takes a cross-sectoral approach to the issue of social development, collaborating with government, business, and philanthropic agencies. CCSD has been in operation since 1920 and the organization has played a role in promoting Canada’s first old age pension program and employment insurance.

There has been a dramatic increase in recent years in precarious work in the Canadian job market. Precarious work is commonly defined as unprotected, non-standard employment that pays poorly, and makes it difficult to support a household. This week’s infographic, published by the Workers' Action Centre, takes a look at the growth of precarious and low-wage work in Ontario in recent years.
