Community-based learning builds engagement, leadership and active participation by and for its members. Community leaders work with individuals to identify what unique social supports are needed, so they can be matched with appropriate services in their community. In other words, problem-based learning, volunteerism, and experiential learning or lived experience are integrated to improve the community ability to collaborate and develop understanding about each other's services to better support individual needs. Knowledge about What Works from many service providers is synthesized across a variety of disciplines, and shares personal, interpersonal, professional and academic learning and experience back into the community.
