The Ontario government spends about 14 cents per person per day on affordable housing — less than half the amount spent in 2000 — even though the province's population and its housing needs continue to grow significantly. The low level of spending means the government has been able to fund only a fraction of the new homes it promised in 2003. And those targets from 2003 were already modest, when set against the desperate province-wide need for affordable homes. (excerpt from the document)
