The article reports on cities' response to the rising demand for emergency food assistance and shelter in the U.S. The U.S. Conference of Mayors' (USCM) Task Force on Hunger and Homelessness is working with members of Congress to increase funding for Community Development Block Grants and the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Emergency Shelter Grants that can be used for housing and other services.
