The City of Thompson - Sustainable Community Plan 2010

The Thompson Planning District, comprising the City of Thompson and surrounding Local  Government District of

Mystery Lake, retained AECOM to prepare the Thompson and Planning District Sustainable Community Plan (SCP) in August 2009. Concurrent to preparing the SCP, the City of Thompson retained AECOM to develop the City of Thompson Master Parks Plan (MPP), which provides a framework for improvement and management of Thompson’s parks and open spaces. Linkage between the SCP and MPP helps manage future growth in a consistent manner.

The SCP references the “Five Pillars of Community Sustainability” in the provision of a Community Vision, Growth Management Plan, Sustainable Infrastructure Asset Management and Facilities Master Plan, and Implementation

Strategy that will guide future planning and decision making in the Planning District. The pillars address economic, social, cultural, environment (built and natural), and governance dimensions of sustainability.

Through a comprehensive Public Engagement Strategy, over 1000 participants collaborated in the process to define sustainability in the unique context of this northern Manitoba city.
