Downtown Eastside Women’s Summer Fair & Flea Market Report

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) piloted a project titled Downtown Eastside Women’s Street Market.

The objective of this 6-month project was to pilot and improve a vocational and income-generating opportunity for homeless residents and at-risk female residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES). The project builds on the success of a 12-week Women's Street Market pilot project supported by the City of Vancouver for street entrenched women.

The Market, led by the DEWC, creates positive change for women in the DTES who are regularly subjected to violence and who would like to seek income opportunities but whose individual circumstances prevent their engagement in mainstream employment programs.

This project was funded in part by the Government of Canada's Homelessness Partnering Strategy’s Innovative Solutions to Homelessness program. The opinions and interpretations provided in the publication are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Government of Canada.
