Employment Initiatives Pilot Project

The Alexandra Community health Centre piloted a project titled, Alex: Housing First Employment Initiative Pilot Project.

The objective of this fifteen-month project was to create and pilot the innovative Pre-pre-employment Program (PEP) for high acuity, formerly homeless individuals in The Alex’s Housing First programs.

PEP provides participants with supports to prepare them for re-entry into the workforce while managing other issues (physical, mental health, and substance abuse issues). The report describes the activities and results of the pilot and may help to guide others who may wish to pursue a housing first employment program.

This project was funded in part by the Government of Canada's Homelessness Partnering Strategy’s Innovative Solutions to Homelessness program. The opinions and interpretations provided in this publications are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Government of Canada.
