Nursing Research and Political Change: the Street Health Report... the State of Canada's Homeless

Demographic information, nurses advocating behalf of clients for equal access to health and social services. With no address or telephone number, homeless people are usually excluded from census and health surveys that use these routes for communicating with respondents. In Ontario, for example, public health agencies and the Ministry of Health have generally failed to gather information on the health status of homeless men and women. Of the data that does exist, much comes from Street Health, a community-based nursing organization in Toronto that operates clinics for women and men who are homeless or underhoused. The Street Health Report, released in May of 1992, has been a major contribution in this area.
