Overdose and Homelessness—Why We Need to Talk About Housing

A common assumption is that there is a unidirectional causal pathway between drug use and homelessness; that is, people experience homeless because of their drug use. This commentary clarifies this misconception and unpacks some of the complicated factors contributing to the bidirectional relationship between drug use and homelessness. It also discusses the ways that housing can become a form of overdose prevention.
