Overnight Youth Care Provider

Job Description:

The Overnight Youth Care provider works in our residential homes on a night shift. This is a key position providing support and ensuring the safety of our youth ages 13-17. This role leads the contribution towards creating a welcoming environment through meal preparation, baking, basic household maintenance and preparation of youth project management such as scrapbooking, event planning, birthdays, and celebrating special occasions. This position also requires someone who enjoys spending time with youth and can manage elevated situations when needed. Though this is an independent position, the role to the team is vital as it assists the team in maximizing our impact while supporting the youth and families we serve within a continuing context of family reunification. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Keeps with the routines and activities implemented to provide a safe and secure milieu, which fosters family reunification
  • Follows the case management planning for all residents, ensuring all basic needs and programming expectations are being fulfilled
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills
  • The Coordinator will meet on a biweekly basis to personally provide program updates
  • Resolves conflict or disagreements with teammates professionally and appropriately, seeking the support of the Program Coordinator if necessary
  • Menu planning, scheduling and preparation of meals, lunches and snacks for the youth
  • Lead staff for youth projects such as lifebooks, scrapbooking and other activities as designated to benefit youth and families
  • Acts as a liaison between families, social workers, school representatives, doctors and other professionals involved with the child/youth as needed and directed
  • Maintains and develops relationships with external agencies/groups such as community associations, schools, law enforcement and social service agencies as required

Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Justice Studies, etc) or currently enrolled, or have experience working with at-risk youth
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
  • Class 4 driver’s licence with acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search; a criminal record check dated within 6 months of the hire date will be accepted
  • An Intervention Record Check
  • Must have availability to work weekday, weekend, and awake overnight shifts
