Preventing Homelessness Among Older People: Lessons for Practice

Over the last 15 years, services for rough sleepers and other homeless people have developed considerably in Britain. The number of people sleeping on the streets has reduced, there are many more outreach teams, hostel accommodation has improved, and much more active resettlement preparation and follow-up tenancy support are in place. In addition, special measures have been taken to reduce the number following recognised pathways into homelessness, e.g. after leaving care, the armed forces and prison. The incidence of new cases of homelessness nevertheless remains high, and there is considerable interest in other practical prevention measures.
