Program Manager, Creating Opportunities for Homeless Youth

The agency is an innovative and award winning organization devoted to the provision of services for homeless and at risk youth. We work locally and nationally to prevent, reduce and end youth homelessness. In Toronto we operate a series of programs for at risk youth. One of our initiatives is an emergency shelter that provides harm reduction programming for homeless and at-risk youth aged 16 to 24 who are actively using substances. We are looking to add to our vibrant and enthusiastic staff team the following position:

Job Description:

The Program Manager reports to the General Manager and has responsibility for harm reduction programming at our emergency shelter, including recreation, community supports and outreach. This position is responsible for developing and managing all program delivery from a harm reduction framework. The Program Manager will be well versed in collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders in the creation and facilitation of effective partnerships and will work with the Management Team to ensure effective integration of all programs at our emergency shelter. Other duties include human resource management, proposal writing and assistance in funding procurement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years program management experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience managing staff in a unionized environment
  • Understanding of issues related to youth homelessness and the barriers they face
  • Experience working from a harm reduction perspective
  • Advanced understanding of substance use and harm reduction theory and practice
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse partners, government and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with youth engagement programming
  • Experience in developing funding proposals and managing accountability to funders
  • Excellent communication, facilitation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Superior presentation and public speaking skills
  • Experience working from an anti-oppression framework
  • Well developed administrative and organizational skills including human resources, finance and budgeting as well as computer skills
