Roofs for Youth Foyer Program Evaluation

The Calgary John Howard Society piloted a project titled An Innovative Approach for Youth Homelessness: Integrating Roofs for Youth and Foyer Model.

The objective of this 14-month project was to pilot, develop, test and evaluate a youth intervention, which integrates The Calgary John Howard Society's (CJHS) existing Roofs for Youth program and further implementation of the adapted Foyer Model for Youth Housing. Focused on youth who are homeless and are involved with the criminal justice system, this intervention will serve as an innovative approach to assisting the transition of these youth into adulthood.

The project offered a transitional housing model for youth that would build on the existing success of a partial Foyer Model project at the CJHS. This was done through the creation of designated employment supports and additional community re-integration and natural support development (everyday reciprocal/ give-and-take relationships that are central to preventing homelessness, especially in the case of youth who have a background in correction services).

This project was funded by the Government of Canada's Homelessness Partnering Strategy’s Innovative Solutions to Homelessness program. The opinions and interpretations provided in the publication are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Government of Canada.
