Supportive Housing in Rural Communities: An Exploratory Study

This thesis is an investigation of a basic and recurring question in rural social planning: whether ideas developed by central agencies are suitable for rural areas, institutions, and people. Supportive housing for special needs groups is a recent policy and program initiative of the Ontario Ministries of Housing and Community and Social Services; produced under the auspices of Long-Term Care Reform. It was developed as one method of preventing premature institutionalization of vulnerable people, such as the functionally impaired elderly person.
